Art Wish List

  • Paint worthy paper
    • When I was on my teaching placement we had no access to paper for students to paint with. For art activities we would have to use a regular weight of paper that would become soggy when painted on. If a student is putting their hard work, time and creativity into a painting activity they deserve supplies that will allow them to keep their work for years to come.
  • Scissors for every student.
    • When a classroom does not have a class set of scissors it makes it very difficult to complete art assignments. Having a class set makes it possible to complete many tasks.
  • The Dot: Peter H. Reynolds.
    • A wonderful book that can be incorporated into an art lesson. This book can help students regain confidence in their drawing abilities.
  • Ish: Peter H. Reynolds.
    • Another great book from the same author as The Dot that can be incorporated into art lessons. This book can help students recognize that their drawings do not have to be realistic. We have cameras for that!
  • Resources to use as Paint Trays
    • It is not necessary for fancy formal art trays but so many of my lessons need students to have somewhere to put paint to work with. In my art class I have seen two very resourceful strategies; foam plates with scrap paper on top of plate (to keep plates clean) or reused lunchable plastic trays.
  • A variety of paints.
    • As I was choosing art lessons I found many called for tempera paint and many others called for water colour paints. Having access to a variety of paints will make it possible to do many art activities.
  • Art Prints.
    • Throughout the  art curriculum students are asked to engage with other artists' creations. Having prints of a variety of artwork would make it possible to plan a variety of art activities that I could not otherwise.
  • Lots of Bulletin Boards
    • Students work very hard on their art projects. They deserve to have their work displayed so that they can feel pride in their finished product. I would love to have many bulletin boards so lots of students' work can be displayed.
  • Smart Board
    • There are so many new ways to engage with a smart board. I would love to have one in my art class to create more art lessons around.
  • Construction Paper
    • So many of my lesson plans call for construction paper. Without this I would have many difficulties planning lessons and giving students opportunities to express themselves in a variety of creative ways.
