For this lesson students will use bubble wrap as a medium for print making. This activity is appropriate for kindergarten students.
Materials:
- News paper
- Bubble wrap
- Sheets of white paper
- Paint in many colours
- Paint tray
- Paint Brushes
- Wet sponge or cloth
Directions:
Set up: Cover the work area with newspaper. Tape down if necessary. Place a sheet of bubble wrap at each student's desk. Have paint, white paper, paint trays and paint brushes in center of each work area.
Note: when giving kids a distracting medium to work with (bubble wrap) give them time to pop and play with the medium to reduce distractions when working with it.
Step one: Instruct students to paint bubble wrap in any variety of colours and placement they choose.
Step two: Have students place their white paper on top of the bubble wrap, and pull away to create a print.
Modifications/Adaptations
To do this lesson with older students, you have them plan out what their painting will be of. You could require them to mix colours, and/or only use warm or cool colours. Students could experiment with layering of prints and/or different. Older students can also write a reflection on the experience and explain why they chose the colours, design etc.
This could also be made into a holiday themed activity (e.g.: Creating a Christmas tree at Christmas time)
