In this lesson students will use string and cardboard to create a print. Younger grades can do a more simple version of this activity, while older grades can make more complex prints.
Materials:
- Small cardboard squares (around 12x12 cm)
- Yarn
- Glue
- Scissors
- scrap paper
- Tempera Paint
- Paint Tray
- Construction Paper
Directions:
Step one: On scrap paper have students design what they want their stamp to be. This can be based on current studies or something the student is interested in.
Step two: Have student redraw their design on cardboard. Remind students lines cannot be too close together. Any words or letters need to be a mirror image of the final desired print.
Step three: Have students glue down yarn over their design on the cardboard. Allow to dry well.
Step four. Have students dip their stamp in paint. and do a practice stamp on scrap paper. Then have students make multiple prints on their piece of construction paper.
Step five: Have students write a reflection explaining what their stamp was of; why they chose it and how they feel it turned out.
